How To Choose a Moving Company in Singapore

Step-By-Step Guide on Choosing a Moving Company in Singapore

Finding the right movers is not easy. Excellent movers who show high levels of care in handling your furniture will likely cost more, and cheaper movers will likely show less meticulousness. But besides price, how can we determine the quality of a mover? We’ll show you exactly how you can choose the right moving company in Singapore.

If you’d like to get your stuff to your new place in one piece and on time, a quality mover is a must. Let’s dive into some of the steps in choosing the right moving company.

Step 1: Ask friends & relatives for referrals

If you know any family or friends who have moved house recently, ask them about the moving company they engaged in and their experience with them. This is by far one of the fastest ways to identify a quality mover apart from looking at reviews.

Step 2: Get estimates from at least 3 different moving companies

To avoid being ripped off by overpriced services, get at least 3 quotes from 3 different companies to compare. To find movers in Singapore, we recommend going on Google Maps to look at the rating (upon 5) and quantity of reviews. Do note that some shady companies will unethically put in fake reviews, so look for reviews that are descriptive and seem legit to paint a better picture of the company.

Usually, the company will send a representative down to your house to give you an estimate on how many boxes and lorry trips your house requires. Make sure this estimate is in black and white.

The prices shouldn’t be worlds apart. If one of the prices is exceptionally cheaper, there is probably a shady reason for it. And if one of the prices is exceptionally more expensive, find out what’s included in their package to see if the price is justified.

Step 3: Pay close attention to the moving company’s representative during the estimate

Watch for any red flags that the moving company may reveal when they visit your house. For example, if the mover seems desperate to get a deposit before the actual move, it could be a sign of something shady. Also, pay attention to their professionalism like punctuality, confidence, and ability to answer your questions.

Of course, there are instances where the representatives may check all the boxes for you, but the actual move still ends up not meeting your expectations. This method is not 100% accurate but is a decent indicator of the mover’s standards & quality.

Make sure to clarify any doubts or questions you may have with the mover. One important question is to ask them about their insurance coverage for any accidental damages during the move.

Step 4: Openly display the estimates to other movers

Collect the estimates in a clear binder, and place them in an obvious spot like the dining table. This shows the company representatives that you’re doing your homework and is aware of the market prices. This is a good way to ensure they’ll be more honest & competitive in their quote.

Step 5: Do deeper research on the moving companies

Search them up in Google. See what other customers had to say about their experience with this mover.

Also crucially important, make sure to confirm that they’re a licensed mover. To get a license, they have to be registered with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory (ACRA) and the national regulator of business entities.

Why only hire licensed movers? Unlicensed movers may be unclear about the building requirements and thus not take precautions while moving your furniture in the lift and lobby/void deck. This means you’ll be the one bearing the risks and claims.

Step 6: Narrow down the list

With your research, narrow down your list to the best 1 or 2. All there’s left to do is contact them and let them know you would like to proceed. If it really comes down to 2 movers, choose the one that best fits your moving schedule.

Final Thoughts About Choosing a Moving Company in Singapore

Moving house is never easy. There are lots of nuances and stress during this time. Finding the right mover is still just the beginning. From our experience, the actual packing and moving experience will be the most challenging part of this process, and not so much of finding a mover. Of course, finding a good mover is the first step and will make your entire experience a lot smoother with less headache.
